I learned by practicing first. Now I design that for others.
I'm an Instructional Systems Designer based in Napa, California. I currently design training for U.S. Coast Guard programs. Before that, I built onboarding, compliance and leadership training for an early-education provider with about 800 staff across 50 sites, relocation training for international hires, and technology-adoption programs at Northeastern University.
How I work. I start with the moment the job gets hard: the judgment call, the meeting in ten minutes, the goal that has to go into ADP. Then I design practice for that moment, and I measure whether people did it on the job, not whether they liked the session. I partner closely with HR, Safety, operations and SMEs, and I build to WCAG 2.1 and UDL from the first draft.
Where I came from. UX and design leadership, then classroom teaching, then learning design. I rebuilt my career in a new country and a second language, which is why practice-first design isn't a theory for me.
